5 Star Mission - Provide highly motivated middle- and high-school-age musicians the unique opportunity to perform in a professional-caliber jazz ensemble. 5 Star nurtures the Northland's most talented musicians in Kansas City's worldwide jazz legacy with the following:

5 Star Structure 5 Star is a non-profit, volunteer community band comprised of high school and middle school student musicians with a love for jazz and passion for excellence. Student participation in 5 Star does not affect eligibility or standing in their respective school band programs. Admission into 5 Star is audition based with nominal entry fee.
5 Star Leadership - Award winning jazz band director Bob Drummond brings 30-plus years experience leading professional and amateur band ensembles. Student musicians learn valuable leadership skills by serving on the Executive Board, fundraising, and organizing community performances.
5 Star Community Support - 5 Star Jazz Band welcomes enthusiastic sponsors and contributors to support its long-term mission of promoting excellence in music education for Kansas City's young jazz musicians. As a 501(C)3 not-for-profit organization, 5 Star offers its sponsors wholesome, high profile exposure at public and private performances throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.
